Blood on my hands.

I've been keeping this under drafts for 3 months. I've been typing, deleting, almost sad about how I'm unable to get this out to the public before the story dies.  In reality, every story dies.   I have had a long break for writing. I took no or little effort to reflect on most things that's happening because of two reasons. One is, I have simply lost count on incidences. I get lost mid-way in the research, find something mildly less of a hassle to handle. Secondly, all cases are likely to be replaced with something else.  I want to talk about Afghanistan . I want to bring back the story of Israel-Palestine. I want to talk about Sri Lankan murder fiascos (I mean why not because there's heck of a lot), but the truth is that the shelf-life of each story is too short for anyone to react to it. I have been slacking off and brushing every story under the carpet and I'm not proud of it. Writers need to be independent beings. Practice your autonomy. We don't have p...

#NoWomenEver

After digging into why catcalls are followed by the happy connotation of "complimentary," I thought why not try to find the most common sources that pronounce these 'happenings' as minor inconveniences.  I wasn't so impressed.  Source:   @eugeniedbart   Commentators, jokes in pod-casts that goes unhinged, little remarks almost shrugged over the shoulder, dismissed without the slightest examine because gender based violence (if we were to talk about our proud heritage - Sri Lanka), is a self explanatory area when you look at the charts.  Let's leave aside Sri Lanka. It's a small-spaced island and no one whole-heartedly cares if our legal system can't uphold basic rights (apart from those  who may benefit from the hierarchy of power at play ). From Geetha saying sanitary needs to go for a six in order to upvote for National security to others backing up for her was enough to really take an upvote for ridiculousness.  Back in 2014, a viral video  was...

"I want to be alone" ~ Greta Garbo

Since I couldn't add anything to my blog recently, I decided to dust the cobwebs off and get on with it again. As I was sitting ducks for days wondering what sense I need to type down on this, I realized that all my topics revolved around one thing and one thing alone. Which are those unusual tea-date conversations or rather things that people don't exactly agree with.  So I decided to talk about politics.  Put me at gun point, I'm not. I'd rather stay true to things that actually need attention.  Something so vague but very important like, depression.  "I don't have depression but I-" Great deal of people say that for the sake of icebreaking. When you're speaking with curiosity followed by less empathy, you make that inferior power within those who suffer from depression to multiplicate and constantly remind them that what they are dealing with is so obvious and visible. It's like they put on a show for a crowd that hates entertainment. So many pe...

It *should not* take a village to raise a child.

Reader's discretion: If the below writing isn't eye opening enough, I suggest to search for @aritha.w to get more meaningful content and insight. The images and the statements are disturbing but this is the time to crawl out of your comfort zone and get a better look at the world from where you are standing. Yet there are only a handful of people like @aritha.w who appears for the majority's sake, we won't feel the depth of what's happening in Sri Lanka until it happens to someone we associate.  We talk so highly of our culture. The Sri Lankan culture. The culture where we pretend values are preserved and respected beyond anything else. Where half of the population dedicates a proportion of their lives to correct themselves and adapt to the so called culture. Excuse me for repeating the word 'culture' so many times but first of all, WHAT culture?  From men being allowed to have multiple wives to sexual abuse to domestic violence to disturbing and absolutely ...

Do not take the internet more seriously than racism.

Thanks to the continuous scrolling, I came across an interesting post. Must say that this was a total coincidence given that the post was at least a month or so old.  It was shared by one of my friends on Facebook and all due credits should go to him for actually stepping up, confronting this woman and posting this on his feed to let us remind about what rubbish we have to surround ourselves on social media. Even though I have blurred the names in the comments section of the above screen shot, can we for a second silently acknowledge who the antagonist here is?  I am not defending any of the religions here. I'd actually do something better with what I have to say rather than fueling hypocrisy that drains my brain.     The long story short, my friend had merely commented a ' sad reaction ' on one of her posts on Facebook, which according to her knowledge deserved a ' laugh reaction ' as we could assume. This is almost immature and obviously ignorant. We have been...

Some jokes are getting old and it shows.

Read that again. I am not a feminist. At least not a hardcore one. But I think I'm old and capable enough to make an educational judgement about people who take it as a joke.  Let me tell you, In my really tiny circle of friends, we have fought about things countless of times, we've had disagreements but in the end we all stand on the ground rule of not stepping on each others believes.  I so far haven't associated someone who disrespected me because I am a girl. I haven't had close conversations with someone one that degraded me for who I was and made me feel embarrassed for what I believed in or chose to follow. I'm not going to vent my anger here, because it's already dealt with, but I've reached the peak point of telling people that they shouldn't be involved in trying to mold someone out of their opinions, because honestly, no one has the time for that sort of negative energy.  Does a woman/girl want to be a feminist ? Let them be. That's thei...

A shade darker than 'white'

And so can't we. My previous post was written in late March. Just for contemplation-sake I'd say that I expected May and June to be the new start for this year, it might as well would have been called January. Where things would be sound and we could spend the rest of the 6 months feeling a bit more normal than we are used to feeling.  If the knee that choked George lifted in time, the wake up call for the community wouldn't be here. Imagine you talking about your child, on a stage, saying "my kid is so gifted" and someone snatches the mic to comment "all children are gifted". I think people of America needed this as a reason to break the already-broken economy to fathom about an issue we thought that was long buried. Riots never reached it's climax. Another issue always rose up and we would forget what we were rioting for.  Not this time.  As demeaning or exhausting this year was, we were far from understanding how much racism it would take to set ...

What you don't see /// ~2020~

Don't sugar coat. Shower thought/// Since I couldn't post in a while, I decided to talk about everything we are going through, given that everyone has embraced the situation as it is, and is staying at home to make the best out of it. I have noticed several posts saying that they honestly can't remember what they used to talk about before the Chinese Virus - (at least that's what Trump said) And I spiraled back into Kobe's death, Australia's fire scandal, the Megxit and the volcano eruptions - 2020 has so far been a game of minesweeper and we have been stepping on a mine every single time, this is why they decided to lock-down everything so we would avoid stepping on a mine before it all blows up. The worst part of this isn't what you think it is, it's panicking unnecessarily, forget panic buying and filling up inventory, I'm talking about the circulation of false information which takes up the form of anonymous WhatsApp threads and...

Cul-de-sac of believes

Last Edited - 15.28 So one of my really close friends asked me to write this up, I've always had a diverse group of friends because I've been schooled at an International school, I was taught to respect and think about everyone's believes and values and not to take religion as a weapon to down-size others. In fact some of us loved hearing different opinions, learning something new and unique, sometimes, we'd even find how difficult their lives are, and we'd tell our dark times and know everyone has their own issues to address, despite religion, culture, gender or race. I think the ones residing in Sri Lanka has a lot to say, we've been through a lot, we've survived through nearly 30 year-wars, we've survived through Easter attacks, we've been through marches and protests, but tell me this; We've longed for that Christmas cake that our christian friend owes us every December. We bully all our Tamil friends to bring whatever the food their ...

Are ya ready kids?

Believe me when I say,,, Spongebob : 'What if I break your trust someday? Patrick : Trusting you is my decision, proving me wrong is your choice.' Surface There is something about trust. It's not what everyone defines it as. In fact it has no specific meaning. 'Trust' is a prodigious word, to us it meant keeping secrets, guarding one another, defending somebody when they do wrong what not. That's basically 'trust' in a nutshell when we were kids; but correct me if I'm wrong, I feel like there's a vast meaning behind, and we are just touching the surface of an ice-burg that has more depth.  Digging deep, I understood that trust began with family, passed on to those who you're close with, friends, even strangers who are overly extroverted. So trust has nothing to do with secrets. How many of y'all were challenged to say the truth at all the dare games? Haven't you ever, and by this I mean EVER been in a situation where you ...

Appreciation Post !

Smaller the circle, better the vision I had to say this today,  Had some friends say 'Hey this is so great! You're finally learning how to let go of yourself' and I really felt it. I know that maybe not everyone can relate to the above spam posts I randomly share about various 'off-tone' topics because I really need to write these thoughts off my lungs, then I can breathe in peace. Few years back when I used to train kids for one of the examinations, I came across a quote that said 'If you're rowing a boat with your friends, make sure everyone's rowing and not drilling holes when you aren't looking' and whoever came up with that knew that there are people out there clapping their rusty hands, licking their disgusting lips, waiting till you miss an opportunity, waiting till you fall flat on your face just to pretend that that they could 'offer' you a 'helping' hand. And since nothing can be trusted, if you are to take the...

Trust the instinct

The medium is buffering, please wait Highs Noticing some sort of ecstasy in ourselves sometimes is rare but when we do, we just wish we could feel that way for a life time. So when we are happy, we tell it, we communicate it, our happiness sometimes just radiates in different forms and if a mirror was placed in front of you, you'd be confused to see yourself the way others do, wow I'm glowing. I've been told a couple of times that when I surpass a peak point of my life no one will be happy for you genuinely' After couple of lessons I decided to let that sink as a fact. We were fed lies to as how everyone will offer you the opportunity, to be heard, "if you work hard enough the spot light will shine on you my friend" In some cases yes because I literally see a hard-worker who just got up from his 23 - hour study routine frowning at my comment. I'm sorry, I hope you continue to read this. Lows No one talks about how hard it is to open up. No on...

Crowded in an empty place

Pitch an opinion  I'd love to vent my anger on this so called 'golden century', from the posts about 'where are all the millennial babies at?" to all the Reddit posts about humiliating the abilities of different people from different generations. At first we laugh along-side but the insults do hit deep. Not everyone who is born after 2000 is a mess, we are indeed cleaning up messes the previous generations left us with. They say we don't communicate, that we are on our phones 24/7 - guess who is fighting to save Amazon forest by establishing online campaigns and making an effort to collect signatures for petitions? They say we aren't creative because we are not using our brains, but why do we have better pass rates than you do? Why do they say that we don't think ahead but we exhaust ourselves for beach clean-ups? How do you dare to say that our lives are a complete waste - We have more equality and freedom for education. I live in a society where a...

Not your ordinary woman

#defined yet persuasive Dated - 08th of March 2020 21.33 pm - Last edited Speaking about today, most say that it is dedicated to women. when I was small, I used to be really proud that an entire day, absolutely one entire day is just 'reserved' for us girls/women. And now all grown up, I realize how absurd and ridiculous society takes this day into account. In a separate era, we were fed with various thoughts. 'only to be seen but never heard' "It's okay to have ambition but not too much ambition" "You are not allowed to sit like that" "Take up a teaching job, it suits for a girl " "I don't think you should talk too much, they are going to get the wrong idea" "You can dress like that, but the rest is up-to you" "don't travel alone" How many times have you driven past a slow vehicle expecting the driver to be female? Is it really necessary for you to 'man-splain' everything...

Is the grass greener now?

I'd tell you to count the stars, but we were too busy for that then. Before Story  What caused you to pull up your socks today? most people either say that it was a mere obligation, or mostly your alarm indicating you're either late for something and you just had to do it. I know for a fact that some of you drove past so many red lights to be where you are today. Along the way you've been pulled up, interrogated and even got fined for speeding up. Just a taste of life. They say; before hitting 20's your life is like a buoy that is unattended and the fact that you're suddenly considered an 'adult' makes everything more difficult, so are we now supposed to remove our seat belt? just because the road got a less bumpier ? whats even more contradicting is that we are still not free from the work stress. The peer pressure. The infinite imbalance between wanting to have a social life Vs the requirement to stay in and get your life together. Then you get ...

Paper girl in a Paper Town - JG

#1  "she loved mysteries so much that she became one" All those who wander aren't lost Here's to everyone that loves to travel, to do something unique and who always aims to settle for the extraordinary. Consider yourself a paper, and what is paper? it is thin, easily crumpled or caught in fire. Those that surround us is paper. Hence, Temporary. So it's best to live while you have the chance, be a grenade that explodes in the midst of a war, you'll decide which party loses. Be someone worthwhile and by this I don't mean fun, but knowledgeable and intriguing to observe. #2  "we don't bring the scattered showers on our enemies, we bring down the whole rain" But when we grow up, almost everything seems very short term, associating someone with a myopic eye seems like finding a diamond in the rough. Being able to find someone to connect on an emotional level becomes a blessing. (Note: If this was never an issue you faced, cons...

I Killed Someone

Uncertain but certain. Part #1 The rocket science behind underrating someone Now that i have your attention because of the heading you might as well read the rest. So here you are probably on your phone reading what she (me) has to say.  Did you know that most people judge  because they cling on to traditions and expect everyone to follow them? they are yet victims of society and its bias rules because this is not the 90's anymore, nothing needs to be said or shown in black and white because out here we got radiant colors. Its just like how you clicked this post just in case I really was talking about a murder that I've committed. But hey I'm sorry to disappoint you. What gets in when someone comments about things like pessimism ? mostly hate. It's just like how we have hated joker for almost forever because we never knew his side of the story and suddenly the villain becomes the hero because there is always two sides for a coin. Part #2 Flip the coin when you ...

The "WIT" in Writer//

#1 I've always loved to write. which is why I've always dreamed about becoming a journalist or at least some form of a writer to let the thoughts run lose. But as i grew up, I realized that writing means expressing, and expressing means I've got to break down my walls; hence this was out of my comfort zone. What exactly defines a writer? we don't know. that's the beauty of it, since you never know the beginning or the end of a sentence or how it will turn out. If you were to hold a paint brush, it simply does not mean that you are capable of fabricating a mere masterpiece. So slow down before you think you've accomplished all. I'd ask you what's more powerful ; a gun or a thought? and I'd say its a thought because after all its the the thought that pulls the trigger. So I'd rather agree that my thoughts are robust since I pulled the strings to articulate my train of conceptions. Hence; "Triggered"
